Sphene is the name given to this gemstone due to the mineral Titanite. It is known for its exceptional dispersion, resulting in brilliant fire. The dispersion exceeds even that of Diamonds. However, the relatively low hardness of Sphene inhibits its use as a mainstream gemstone
It has been found in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Madagascar with Madagascar currently being the main source for high quality facet-grade sphene. The green and yellow stones are most prized by gem collectors and connoisseurs alike.
